The reds from the Yarra Valley in 2018 were of excellent quality. The ripening period was long and temperate. This allowed strong flavour profiles to develop in all varieties, but particularly Cabernet, which is the last red varietal to ripen and needs “hangtime” on the vine to develop the chocolate and cassis characters that are highly valued in good Cabernet.
Robert Paul, The National Cool Climate Wine Show chief judge and Victorian Wine Show Director, judged this wine as 90 points out of 100 - a testament to its quality.
This wine, sourced from fruit from the valley floor around Coldstream, has developed the desired characters, and the Merlot influence (5%) has enhanced the structure and mid-palate finesse to create a characterful and approachable wine.
A medium-weight palate combines with chocolate, cassis and tobacco leaf characters. The finish is long and full. A great wine to go with red meats, pastas, pizzas and Italian dishes in general. It will age for at least 5-10 years and reward cellaring.
