As in the great Rhone Valley of France, the Pyrenees area of Victoria is highly prized for outstanding Shiraz and other Rhone varietals. The climate is hot and dry, with low humidity and long days of sunshine during summer. It is perfect for developing the Shiraz grapes that make some of the best reds in the country.
Wine made from fruit from this vineyard was awarded “Best Red Wine” trophy at last year’s Victorian Wine Show. In a recent review from Victorian Wine Show Director Robert Paul, the wine scored 88 points.
Our “Summit” insignia signifies the “Peak” or the “Pinnacle” of quality and is reserved only for very special wines in our range. This wine definitely meets that test. It has an outstanding nose of great oak, fruit and balance, and presents seamlessly on the palate, showing superb integration, great depth of flavour and a very long and sustained finish. It is drinking very well now, but will reward ageing up to 20 or more years. Heavier dishes (steaks, Lamb, Osso Bucco, Beef Wellington) are a great match, but the wine’s fruit sweetness and soft tannins means that it will pair with lighter and more subtle dishes as well.
