Both the Pinot Noir and the Shiraz for this wine came from the home vineyard. A challenging year for disease control and fruit set, the vineyard nevertheless produced some excellent fruit. Cherry and strawberry characters of the Pinot blended very well with the fuller mouthfeel of the Shiraz, which led to a delightful mid-weight on the palate, yet maintained the fruit softness of the Pinot. The blending of these two varieties from the Upper Yarra Valley has produced a soft, fruit-forward wine of balance, and maintained some of the peppery characters that are derived from the straight Shiraz from this vineyard. The blending of these two varieties is becoming very popular, and this wine will enhance the easy drinking and approachable nature of this blend.
The wine has been made to enjoy now, but will reward some short term cellaring (2-3 years) to enhance complexity.
